After his loyal companion, Kerouac, leaves him for a better source of doggy snacks, Jerry, a Beverly Hills down-and-out, decides to take his own life in the swimming pool of a random millionaire, who proceeds to save him and take him in – unsurprisingly, chaos ensues, in Mazursky’s sporadically entertaining though rather over long adaptation of René Fauchois’s play, which lacks the satirical bite of Jean Renoir’s version.
