A struggling middle-aged writer (along with his super-powered lifelong imaginary friend, Captain Excellent) decamps to an out-of-season seaside town to write his second novel, but instead forms an unlikely friendship with a lonely teenaged girl, much to the chagrin of her boyfriend and his wife, in Kieran and Michele Mulroney’s beautifully crafted, deftly played, and generally very affecting directorial debut.
