Photographer Bert Stern’s sole directing effort is perhaps the definitive concert film; it chronicles the 1958 Newport Jazz festival, mixing footage of acts as diverse and wonderful as Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson, and (bizarrely) Chuck Berry with delightful shots of the appreciative audience and a (presumably) staged house party.
