Making the most of Turgoose’s hangdog fizzog, Grainger’s bubbly turn, and Ryan’s typically striking photography, this tale of teenaged runaways and unrequited love starts off strongly as it concentrates on the pleasures of youthful summer holidays; but when things take a more melodramatic and decidedly unpleasant turn, the film soon loses its charm.
