Kent’s ambitious BBC drama attempts to chart 30 years in the life of sci-fi novelist H.G. Wells, examining his unconventional marriage, voracious sexual appetite, eventful trips to the Soviet Union, and his dreams for a utopian society; but, despite being generally well crafted, it is all just a little bit too sketchy to fully engage with the viewer.
