When he manages to get the conclusion of the case he is prosecuting postponed until after the Christmas break, John Sargent, an easy going Manhattan attorney from small town Indiana, takes pity on the attractive, accused shoplifter, posts her $5,000 bail, and (after a few diversions) takes her home to spend the week with his warm and loving family, where romance unsurprisingly rears its head, in Leisen’s slightly sentimental and somewhat sillily plotted though beautifully acted and thoroughly irresistible romantic comedy.
