Six months after being exposed to a radiation cloud, Scott Carey, a happily married middle American, begins, much to the bemusement of his doctors, to shrink at an alarming rate, to the point where, when he is little more than an inch or two tall, he finds himself battling for his life against such giant monsters as cats and spiders, and struggling manfully to find food and water in the huge wasteland that was once merely his basement, in Jack Arnold’s exemplary existential sci-fi thriller, which provides a surprisingly insightful and decidedly entertaining examination of masculinity.
